Before recommending that you buy or exchange an annuity, the insurer or producer must make reasonable efforts to learn your financial and tax status and your investment objectives. This is Nevada's suitability standard; it predates the best-interest models some other states have since adopted.

Fixed annuities are insurance products, so they are overseen by the state insurance department rather than by the SEC. The department licenses the carriers and the producers who sell them, and it takes consumer complaints.
